Rock Band 2

This is the most amazing game ever!  I always knew Halo would be replaced as my top game…but I always figured it would be another 1st person shooter that did it.  Call of Duty and Ghost Recon both failed in their attempts.

But what Jack Bauer’s voice could not accomplish – Karaoke on speed managed to pull off.  Rock Band 2 will be mine…eventually.  Hopefully around the time they release the Beatles music for it.

How long until Asher can pull off the drums?

One of those late night rambling posts about marriage, faith, and rhythm

Can’t sleep.  For the past year or so I haven’t had as hard a time falling asleep as I used to.  Occasionally I find myself laboring deep into the night or just tossing and turning in bed, but for the most part I have a pretty solid schedule.

That’s kind makes nights like tonight more frustrating though.  It’s unexpected and off-rhythm.  We, as humans, don’t tend to like things unexpected or off-rhythm (especially as we get older).  Sure, our wives may say otherwise, but that is only because we have lowered the bar of what IS expected and on-rhythm.  They want variation b/c we NEVER bring them flowers anymore and we do the same old boring dates (when we are able to actually swing a date night).

This is a season of weddings.  In 3 months I am performing the ceremony for 3 different couples.  Every wedding is a reminder of the promises I made to my bride – the vows (that everyone says), but also the unspoken promises such as “to overwhelm her with creative acts of adoration.”

Yea, we never talked about that promise going in, but in my mind (and probably hers) that was always part of the deal…and it was the part that I was greatly anticipating.  Why do we, as men, fall into the trap of complacency after we win our brides?  Did Jacob (Biblical Jacob, not the mysterious Jacob from LOST), continue his passionate pursuit of Rachel after he finally “won” her by serving her father for 14 years?  I sure hope so.  How disappointing if, by their 10th anniversary they were just hanging out eating falafel every friday night (well, actually, that would be beginning of Sabbath I guess so they were all booked up with things like worshipping God – we, as Christians don’t know too much about setting our Sabbath’s apart – but you get the idea).  I really hope Rachel continued to feel loved/pursued after 50 years the way she felt during those first 14.

And I really hope Kristan continues to feel loved/pursued after 6 years the way she felt during the first 6 months.

Mladen’s story tomorrow

We have been doing a series at The Patio for a couple of weeks now.  It doesn’t really have a title.  All we are doing is sharing stories of what Jesus has done in our lives.  The first week, Jen Chauncey shared her story and it was possibly the most moving day The Patio has ever had.  You could just sense that God had gotten ahold of some hearts through her story.

Tomorrow, Mladen is sharing what God has done in his life.  I have heard his story and am excited to hear it again.  If you don’t have plans tomorrow morning at 10am, you should totally come and hear.

Gearing up for Asher

So ready to get back to blogging!  It is amazing how going out of town and having your rhythm disrupted will mess up something like this.  I hate playing catchup on blogs so let’s forget the “this is what I have been doing” stuff…

I want to get geared up for Asher!  In about a month a baby will be coming and I will be blogging throughout the experience at the hospital.  It has been cleared with Kristan and it went really well last time so pay attention!  It’s gonna be fun.
