Coming Alive

I have a horrible confession: I have never seen “It’s a Wonderful Life” or “Miracle on 34th Street”.  Scenes have been playing in the background of people’s homes when I have been over, but for 28 years I have avoided actually watching either one of these “Christmas classics”.  Honestly, I can’t even tell you what they are about besides angels getting wings and the philosophy of, “if enough people say it, it must be true” respectively. 

So, for this Christmas I have decided I will watch both these movies.  Are they even available to rent?  They are on TV so much that I find it hard to believe that Blockbuster is having trouble keeping them in stock.

Every year around May I reveal my “Album of the Year”.  It is a May to May contest of new music TO ME.  It could be an album from the 80’s, but if I have never heard it and it is good (not likely if it is from the 80’s) it can win.  This years front runner, for example, is “Dosage” by Collective Soul.  Still a lot of time left however.

Anyway, I had an idea for a NEW contest.  It is open for anyone. 

“Compilation Album of the Year” as submitted by friends.  It’s simple – you make a cd that I can borrow and listen through a few times.  I will judge it based on 4 criteria:
1.  I have to enjoy it – subjective?  Sure, but thats the point.  I dont want to listen to something I dont like.
2.  Flow – There is a progression to the songs
3.  Theme – The overall cd has meaning to it; it communicates a message.
4.  Title – I like good titles.  Don’t call it “Mix”.  This is an artistic opportunity.  “Mix” is just lazy.

The deadline is the end of December, but there are bonus points for early entries! 
There will be a prize for the winner…and, your playlist will be glorified on this blog!
