Coming Alive

We have a new part-time staffer @ The Patio!  Vickie stepped up into the role of…um…well, we don’t hire roles; we hire people.  Vickie is good people.  She is hard-working, focused, and works great with others. 

In 6 years of ministry I have worked with a lot of people.  Usually they are young.  There are some great benefits to working with someone fresh out of college – most notably a belief that they are going to change the world (this is fantastic to work with).  The unfortunate thing is many of the young people I have worked with (who believe they will change the world) think that God will use their lazy butt regardless of their lack of discipline or commitment to where he has them now.  I want to believe that God will NEVER give someone influence who hasn’t shown faithfulness in their present experience (I think I read that somewhere).

Anyway, there have been 3 people that come to mind that I have worked with in the last few years that model discipline, passion, and commitment: Kim, Stephanie, and now…Vickie.

I am devastated that I can’t name ONE guy who has modeled this.  Honestly, including me.  My discipline is a joke sometimes.  Passion and commitment are great, but it’s the difference between a dreamer and a doer.  Someone who DREAMS of doing big things for God but doesn’t do anything is pretty worthless…at least to the ministry of God.  I may dream of having a nice back patio, but if I’m not willing to get my butt in the dirt it’s not going to build itself. 

So, this blog was meant to welcome Vickie on staff…but it kinda turned into a rant I guess.  Maybe I should modify this in case anyone thinks I am directing this at you – I’m not, chill out.  I’m thinking mainly of me, however, if you feel like this is about you it probably means that it is true and you should probably get your act together.
