January 31, 2008 at 12:40 am | In The Patio | 2 CommentsMonday night we calendared out an entire year of teaching themes. Let me just say, we are starting out BIG! The graphic alone we are having developed is going to be insane.
The graphic will be here before anywhere else…stay posted!
Reedy Fork Ranch is going to go nuts!
The Big Idea coming to The Patio
January 28, 2008 at 2:09 pm | In Books, The Patio | 3 CommentsI am so pumped up about tonight! This evening our teaching team will be getting together to put together our weekly themes for the entire year. I recently read Dave Ferguson’s book, The Big Idea, and was compelled to put this discipline into practice at The Patio.
I put off reading this book for a long time. The premise just didn’t grab me. When I finally buckled I discovered yet another instance of how I make ministry harder on myself. The concepts that Ferguson lays out in The Big Idea are so frickin obvious it’s amazing that NO ONE seems to put them into practice. I greatly enjoyed reading (in depth) how Ferguson’s team functions under this strategy.
Thank you Dave for giving the readers a lot of information! You do most of the work for us.
This past week has been crazy creative for our team. I have heard some fantastic ideas and I can’t wait for us to work through them this evening!
Crawl
January 26, 2008 at 1:08 pm | In The Patio | 1 CommentLet the terror begin! Nolan is mobile! Yesterday he pulled himself up, and today he figured out how to crawl. At this rate he is going to be driving by the end of next week. I don’t know who I am more afraid of on the roads – him, or Bethany
This morning at 11 am he saw his little rubber ducky about a body length and a half out of his reach. Instead of crying for me to get up and give it to him he army crawled his way over and put the rubber ducky in his mouth.
Stand
January 25, 2008 at 11:20 pm | In The Patio | Leave a CommentNolan pulled himself up today! We sat him in the crib and he grabbed the railing and stood. Kristan actually had to catch him before he jumped off the side!
He seems pretty proud of himself, and for us it’s another reminder of the rapidly approaching day that he is fully mobile.
The Juices are FLOWING
January 24, 2008 at 1:07 am | In The Patio | Leave a CommentWow! I just got home from an impromptu creative meeting with Jason and Will and all I can say is, “Dang!” If I ever had doubts about how off the wall outside the box creative this team can be they are all put to rest now. Seriously we have some amazing ideas already for our first series, “How to Kill Your Neighbor”.
Now, for the shameless request: We could really use a sponser for one specific AMAZING idea we had. Unfortunatly, amazing ideas don’t come cheap! If you are reading this and in the market for something to invest in, hit me up at my email, michael@patiochurch.com
YEAH!
Children’s Ministry Improvement
January 23, 2008 at 12:57 am | In The Patio | 1 CommentOnly a couple more weeks until we move into Morrisette Paper! I can not wait to have our Children’s Ministry going in the same location as our gathering. It is by the grace of God that we have grown as a church (and in our children’s ministry) while doing the two in separate locations. Big time recognition goes out to Stephanie for being able to pull this off! I can’t wait to see what she will do when we make her situation a little more favorable.
Parents: Thank you for bearing with us during this time! You have really exampled what it means to think of the big picture over personal comfort. You Rock!
Chaunceys are coming
January 19, 2008 at 4:14 pm | In The Patio | Leave a CommentIn case you haven’t heard yet the Chauncey’s are going to be moving into Reedy Fork! This huge step of faith on their part completely captures the heart of the missionaries to The Patio. If you don’t live in the Fork, but you are serving and attending out here I want to say again how great it is to share life with you at The Patio. In time some of you will move out here, others never will. Either way your service communicates something about what it means to be a follower of Christ and a missionary.
Get ready Reedy Fork! The Chauncey’s moving in is going to be like Dylan going electric…it changes everything!
Sick
January 18, 2008 at 12:46 am | In Parenting | 1 CommentNolan’s been pretty sick this week. This has really been his first time not feeling well for an extended period of time. Honestly, it’s been pretty tough on me too. I find myself actually wanting Nolan to cry a little bit. He has just been quiet…really quiet. And he seems sad.
I buckled to the cliche of asking God to let me be sick instead of my boy. Laugh if you want, but man I meant it.
Instead I’m pretty sure I’m just going to be sick with my boy!
I dig my motownphilly too.
January 15, 2008 at 11:49 pm | In Misc4 | 2 CommentsThe other day I went to the dentist to have a cleaning done. I heart my dentist. I would drive from out of town to continue being with Dr. Howell. He’s that good. On cleaning day, however, my time is spent primarily with my hygenist, Amanda. She’s really nice, and really chatty…which is good in my opinion.
All of a sudden Boyz to Men came on the radio (“On Bended Knee”) and I remarked how it’s impossible to visit a dentist or doctor and not here something by this soulful quartet. Amanda told me that they used to have the radio tuned to something better, but then they got some complaints and ended up putting it on “Dentist Radio”.
It got me thinking, who in their right mind is so uptight that they would complain about music at their dentist? You have to be a pretty arrogant person to demand control over the dial in a place that you frequent for an hour a year.
Don’t get me wrong though, I dig my Motownphilly!
Welcoming
January 12, 2008 at 9:49 pm | In The Patio | Leave a CommentCrazy week. Still going strong after the preview service. There is so much for us to work on and improve upon, but one thing I want to celebrate is The Patio’s welcoming vibe last weekend. A few weeks ago we talked about how important it is for us to be a welcoming group of people. It’s not the job of a few select few people, but it’s the responsibility of anyone who would claim to be a Christian to be a friendly face to someone coming into a potentially uncomfortable environment.
Guys, you really stepped up this past weekend and I am really proud of you. Thanks so much for making so many people at ease!
