Coming Alive

I love movies.  It is art for our generation.  I have decided in the spirit of my “album of the year” tradition to give an annual list of my best and worst movies.  The movies are decided solely on how well they lived up to expectations for me.  Is it subjective?  Absolutely, but its my list so there’s nothing anyone can do about it…

10.  Blood Diamond – Djmon Honsou was great.  If you have never seen Amistad go rent it right now!  Don’t read the rest, just grab your keys, go to blockbuster and pick it up. 
9.  Lady in the Water – I know it wasn’t popular, but the whole idea was realizing your role in a larger story and coming alive by embracing it.  Mad props to Shylamon for supporting the vision of The Patio!
8.  Deja Vu
7.  Blades of Glory – I don’t like either of the two main actors, but together…so funny!
6.  The Gaurdian – This movie is the same premise of the Caedmon’s Call song The Truth which asks the question, “are you going to save yourself or go back for the others?”  How you answer this question defines you as a Christian, and as a human. 
5.  300 - Not the best movie since Braveheart, as some people thought, but its a great guys movie none the less.
4.  Unknown – A bunch of guys wake up in a warehouse with no memory of who they are or how they got there.  Reminded me of The Usual Suspects (go to blockbuster right now!).
3.  The Illusionist 
2.  Freedom Writers – This movie will inspire passion in you like no other! 
1.  Stranger than Fiction – One of the best pictures of the Gospel I have ever seen in film.  Near the end of the film when Ferrell’s character is aware that the author of his life has written his death he says to her, “It has to be this way, it’s the perfect ending”.  This is perfectly parrallel to Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemene crying out to the Father that His will be done.  The sacrifice (of both Jesus and Ferrell’s character) was part of a beautiful story that had to happen.  Amazing movie!
